BEST SCORE - DRAMA OR ROMANTIC DRAMA

1989 was possibly one of the strongest years in recent history for the outstanding quality of original dramatic scores – in addition to the five listed above, the following could easily have made the final “dramatic” five (if not the Best of the Year overall) in any other year: PATRICK DOYLE for Henry V, CLIFF EIDELMAN for Triumph of the Spirit, LEE HOLDRIDGE for Old Gringo, JAMES HORNER for Dad, MAURICE JARRE for Dead Poets Society, JOHN WILLIAMS for Always, and HANS ZIMMER for Driving Miss Daisy.

As well as those excellent scores, the following are also worthy of special mention: ANGELO BADALAMENTI for Cousins, ELMER BERNSTEIN for My Left Foot, BILL CONTI for Cohen and Tate, CARL DAVIS for The Rainbow and Scandal, DAVE GRUSIN for The Fabulous Baker Boys, JAMES HORNER for In Country, ENNNIO MORRICONE for Casualties of War, PHILIPPE SARDE for Music Box, and GABRIEL YARED for Camille Claudel.
