Richard Band Richard Band

Born: 28 December 1958, Los Angeles, California.

Biography:
Composer Richard Band is the second son of the cult film director Albert Band (whose eldest son, Charles, is also a director). Despite being exposed to the movie industry from an early age, Band initially had no interest in entering the film making business, instead teaching himself the guitar and touring with a rock band during the early 1970s. Eventually, Band succumbed to the family business, and scored his first film in 1978, an ultra-low budget science fiction flop called "Laserblast", which he co-wrote with Joel Goldsmith. Despite the film's lack of success, Band's industry connections and obvious talent have allowed him to go on to be one of the low-budget science fiction and horror genre's most prolific and respected practitioners, with over 50 movies to his name - almost all of them straight-to-video or "cult" movies. Among his more important works are the acclaimed "Metalstorm" (1983), Stuart Gordon's "Re-Animator" (1985), "Ghoulies" (1985), "Puppet Master" (1989), "The Arrival" (1990), the children's fantasy "Prehysteria" (1993), and "Shrunken Heads" (1994), on which he collaborated with Danny Elfman. Since the turn of the millennium, Band has increasingly been involved in scoring episodic television, often in the science fiction and horror genres, and has contributed music to the popular show "StarGate SG-1", and the anthology series “Masters of Horror”, for which he was nominated for an Emmy Award.
