Christophe Beck
Born: 1972, Montreal, Canada.
Biography:
French-Canadian composer Jean-Christophe "Chris" Beck spent much of his adolescence playing bad 80's music in variety of rock bands, trying to hone his skills as a pianist and saxophone player. He gained a great deal of experience writing for musical theater, where his credits have included two full-length musicals co-written with his brother Jason, and he wrote an opera based on "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allen Poe while studying at Yale University. Beck moved to Los Angeles in the late 1992, and enrolled on the USC film scoring program, where he studied under Jerry Goldsmith, among others. Beck's talent soon gave him the opportunity to write music for a number of small-scale TV shows and movies of the week, and he toiled away for most of the early 1990s in ghost-writing hell, until producer Joss Whedon hired him to score the second series of the now-cult TV series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" in 1997. Beck composed scores for Buffy and the gang for five seasons, until he was replaced by German composer Thomas Wanker, but since his decision to leave the hit series, job offers have been flooding in. His feature credits now include hit movies such as "Bring It On" (2000), "The Tuxedo" (2002), "Big Fat Liar" (2002), "Stealing Harvard" (2002), "Just Married" (2003), "American Wedding" (2003), "Cheaper By the Dozen" (2003), “The Pink Panther” (2006) and “The Hangover” (2009).
