BEFORE AND AFTER
Rating:

Original Review: I'm not quite sure what to make of Howard Shore's work on Before and After. Shore is the composer of such diverse works as The Fly, Videodrome, Big and Crash and parts of this, like the Main Title and the finale 'Before and After', are lovely lyrical pieces played by the full orchestra. It's just that most of the music seems to float by without making anything like an impact. It's all quite nice, if rather subdued and a little morose in places, played mainly by strings with full orchestra accompaniment. Most of the cues, however, are a little samey, with a few highlights like the anguished 'The Confession' and the terribly haunting 'It's Your Fault', but for the most part it is nothing more than attractive background music. I'm afraid I'll have to hear better music than this before I can say I am a Howard Shore fan.
