THE BODYGUARD
Rating:

Original Review: This is the dilemma that soundtrack fans sometimes have: You go see a film, you like the music and want to buy the soundtrack, so you go to your local record store and find out that all the soundtrack has is three minutes of score tagged on at the end of a compilation of pop songs. So do you spend £15 on three minutes of score, or wait and hope that somebody re-records it on a compilation? This was the problem with The Bodyguard, as it was with last year's Phenomenon, Tin Cup, the list goes on and on. So was it worth it? In this case yes - Alan Silvestri's Theme from The Bodyguard is only 2:34 long, but it is a lovely, moody, sexy piece. The rest of the album is pretty good too, if you happen to be a Whitney Houston fan, with a lot of her songs included - the best being the gorgeous ballad "I Will Always Love You" and the storming rock track "Queen of the Night". If I may proffer a word of advice to album producers: when you release a soundtrack, think of the score lovers too - and if you can't include more than two minutes of score on the album, why not wait and release a collection of scores - that way the song lovers and score lovers would be satisfied.
