The life story of the author, poet and playwright Oscar Wilde (Stephen Fry). The story begins with Oscar in a happy, stable marriage to Constance (Jennifer Ehle), and follows his early literary triumphs and the publication of the classic "The Importance of Being Earnest". However, in the stifling confines of Victorian society, Oscar struggles with his sexuality, and becomes increasingly torn between his responsibilities to his family, and his all-encompassing infatuation with Lord Alfred 'Bosie' Douglas (Jude Law), a relationship which will have serious implications on himself and all those around him.
