E.T. THE EXTRA TERRESTRIAL

JOHN WILLIAMS

Rating:

Original Review: Williams' best score, bar none. The score which makes my throat tighten and tears well in my eyes every time I hear it. An incredible, awe-inspiring musical ride which begins with a simple, six-note scale played on flute, moves on to the scary, atmospheric, desolate 'Three Million Light Years from Earth', the dreamy, 'ET and Me' and then makes your heart soar with delight along with Williams' string crescendo during the magical 'ET's Halloween' (the bike-riding-past-the-moon music), and again in 'Flying' which contains the same music, which in my opinion is one of the best themes ever written. After an intelligent, clever piano piece entitled 'Over The Moon', the album finishes with the incredible 'Adventure on Earth', a 15-minute tour de force in which all the major themes are revisited and which ends with a wondrous, emotional, almost operatic finale that really pulls at the heartstrings. Glorious.
