John Frizzell
Born: 1966, New York, New York.
Biography:
American composer John Frizzell (who, early in his career used a 'C' in his name to distinguish himself from a writer/director of the same name), was something of a child prodigy, beginning at the age of ten when he was a member of the National Cathedral Choir. He was a member of the chorus of the Paris Opera Company under the baton of Sir George Solti, and later sang with the Metropolitan Opera Company, until the onset of puberty abruptly ended this early career as a soprano singer. Frizzell subsequently studied at the University of Southern California, at the Manhattan School of Music, and with jazz guitar legend Joe Pass, who ultimately inspired Frizzell to pursue a career as a composer. After college, Frizzell spent several years working with acclaimed producer, arranger and vibraphonist Michael Mainieri (whose clients ranged from Carly Simon and Dire Straights to Buddy Rich and Billie Holiday), and gained experience as a synthesist, orchestrator, composer and producer, working on everything from rap, jazz, and pop records, to films and commercials. A move to Los Angeles saw him working as an orchestrator for composers such as James Newton Howard and Ryuichi Sakamoto, eventually leading to him writing his first solo score for the movie-of-the-week "Keys" in 1994. Since then, Frizzell has gone on to score several acclaimed and popular Hollywood movies, many of them in the action, horror and sci-fi genres, including "Beavis and Butt-head Do America" (1996), "Dante's Peak" (1997), "Alien Resurrection" (1997), "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer" (1998), "Jane Austen's Mafia" (1998), "Thirteen Ghosts" (2001), "Josie and the Pussycats" (2001), "Ghost Ship" (2002), "Cradle 2 the Grave" (2003), "Gods and Generals" (2003), “Stay Alive” (2006) and “The Reaping” (2007).
