Rolfe Kent Rolfe Kent

Born: 1963, St. Albans, England

Biography:
An English-born composer with strong Scottish heritage, Rolfe Kent was brought up in a largely non-musical household, becoming a self-taught musician while earning a degree in psychology at the University of Leeds. His association with various local rock and pop bands in Yorkshire resulted in Kent composing music for a stage play, "Gross", which was produced for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and, despite having no formal classical music training, a move into scoring stage plays, short films and student films quickly followed. By 1989, Kent had found his way into television, and subsequently feature films, and finally came to international prominence in 1998 with his score for the Kenneth Branagh/Helena Bonham-Carter drama "The Theory of Flight". Since then his career and reputation has grown to such an extent that his filmography now includes such eclectic title as "Election" (1999), "Nurse Betty" (2000), the smash hit "Legally Blonde" (2001), "Kate & Leopold" (2001), "Someone Like You" (2001), "40 Days and 40 Nights" (2002), the Jack Nicholson vehicle "About Schmidt" (2002), the Golden Globe nominated “Sideways” (2004), and the box office smash “Wedding Crashers” (2005). Kent can rightly be considered one of the more prominent ‘indie’ composers working in film music today, specializing in films made outside the Hollywood mainstream but which have great commercial potential.
