Trevor Rabin
Born: 13 January 1954, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Biography:
South African composer, guitarist and singer/songwriter Trevor Rabin gained his first musical experience playing piano as a child. Growing up, Rabin embarked upon a lifelong love affair with the electric guitar, and eventually became a session musician in his homeland, working with artists including the short lived The Conglomeration and the domestically popular Rabbitt. Despite winning numerous South African music awards with Rabbitt, Trevor left in 1978, and embarked on a solo career which took him to London, and he eventually became a member of the popular rock band Yes, whose make-up at that time included vocalist Jon Anderson and producer Trevor Horn. After a decade of success with Yes (whose albums included "90125", "Big Generator", "Union" and "Talk"), Rabin parted ways in 1995, and was immediately asked to play the electric guitar on Mark Mancina's score for "Twister" (Mark had previously played keyboard with Yes on tour). His collaboration with Mancina and, as a result, Jerry Bruckheimer and the Media Ventures organisation, led to his first solo commission for the Steven Seagal vehicle "The Glimmer Man" in 1996, and has since seen Rabin compose music for films such as "Con Air" (1997, with Mancina), "Armageddon" (1998, with Harry Gregson-Williams), "Enemy of the State" (1998, again with Gregson-Williams), "Deep Blue Sea" (1999), "Remember the Titans" (2000), "Gone in 60 Seconds" (2000), “National Treasure” (2004), and its sequel “National Treasure: Book of Secrets” (2007). Rabin is also the only film composer to have a handprint in the legendary Rock and Roll Walk of Fame on Sunset Boulevard, dating back to his days as a member of Yes.
