Graeme Revell Graeme Revell

Born: 23 October 1955, Auckland, New Zealand.

Biography:
Prolific New Zealand-born composer Graeme Revell graduated from the University of Auckland with degrees in economics and politics. Despite being classically trained in piano and French horn, Revell initially embarked upon a career in the private sector - he was a regional planner in Australia and Indonesia, and an orderly in a psychiatric hospital. While working at the psychiatric hospital he formed the industrial rock band SPK with some of the more musically-inclined patients, which combined his own industrial and electronic tendencies with unique samples, some of which he recorded while walking around the wards! His involvement with SPK – specifically the single "In Flagrante Delicto" - led to an invitation from Australian directing duo George Miller and Phillip Noyce to score their suspense thriller, "Dead Calm" (1989). Revell's innovative music earned him an Australian Academy Award for Best Original Score, and set in motion a successful career in film music. Since then, Revell has scored many successful and critically acclaimed motion pictures including "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle" (1992), "Body of Evidence" (1993), "The Crow" (1994), "From Dusk Til Dawn" (1995), “Chinese Box” (1997, for which he won a Golden Osella award at the Venice Film Festival), "The Saint" (1997), "Spawn" (1997), "The Negotiator" (1998), "The Siege" (1998), "Lara Croft - Tomb Raider" (2001), "Blow" (2001), "High Crimes" (2002) and "Daredevil" (2003), many of which make use of his rhythmic, world-music driven sensibilities and a strong symphonic tradition.
