Edward Shearmur Edward Shearmur

Born: February 1967, London, England.

Biography:
English composer Edward Shearmur was surrounded by music as a child. He sang in the choir of Westminster Abbey at the age of seven, studied composition and organ performance at both Eton and Cambridge University, and attended the Royal College of Music, before he was "discovered" by Michael Kamen via a strange quirk of coincidence (Kamen was an arranger for Pink Floyd, and Shearmur's aunt was the then-girlfriend of Pink Floyd's manager). During the 1980s and early 1990s, Shearmur worked as Kamen's assistant, initially keeping track of papers and manuscripts, before going on to play keyboards on Kamen's score for "License to Kill", and later helping to orchestrate the music for such films as "Die Hard", "Lethal Weapon", and "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen". He eventually co-composed his first score, "Let Him Have It" with Kamen in 1991, although his big break in terms of public awareness came six years later, with the release of "The Wings of the Dove" in 1997. Since then Shearmur has become one of the most exciting young composers working in film music today. His list of credits includes a recent string of massively successful movies, including "Blue Streak" (1999), "Cruel Intentions" (1999), "Charlie's Angels" (2000), "Miss Congeniality" (2000), "K-PAX" (2001), "The Count of Monte Cristo" (2002), "Reign of Fire" (2002), "Johnny English" (2003) and “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow” (2004). Shearmur has also been active in the realms of pop and rock, working with the likes of Annie Lennox, Marianne Faithful, Echo and the Bunnymen, Eric Clapton and Bryan Adams, both on-stage and in the recording studio. Edward currently resides in Hollywood, California, with his wife, Allison Brecker Shearmur.
