SOMEWHERE IN TIME
Rating:

Original Review: Another lush, sweeping, delicately romantic set of no less than three distinct themes by John Barry, each played by the full orchestra, with tenderly rendered violins taking the melodic lead - very much in the style of his other tear-jerker scores, such as My Life. Every cue is beautifully played and each rendition of the main 'Somewhere In Time' theme touches the heart. 'The Journey Back in Time', has a slightly off-key, rather disjointed sound to it: a little more morose, but still beautiful; 'A Day Together' introduces a new, playful love theme, and the finale - 'Theme from Somewhere in Time - is possibly one of the most attractive cues Barry has ever written, and includes some excellent piano work by Roger Williams. In addition to Barry's score, there is a sound rendition of Rachmaninoff's 'Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini', performed by Chet Swiatkowski (which seems to popping up regularly these days - check out my review of Groundhog Day). The only complaint I have with the album is the ludicrously short running time: just 27 minutes of original score on the entire album.
