Mark Thomas Mark Thomas

Born: 1956, Swansea, Wales.

Biography:
Welsh composer Mark Thomas majored in composition at the University of Wales and began his professional career as a violinist in London, firstly as leader of the Royal Ballet Orchestra, then as a member of the London Symphony and Royal Philharmonic Orchestras. During his time as a session musician in London, he worked under virtually all of the major film composers of the 1980s, including John Williams, John Barry, Jerry Goldsmith, James Horner, Ennio Morricone and Michael Kamen. Thomas's career changed course in 1987 when he decided to become a full-time composer. He moved back to live and work in Swansea in 1989, and since then Thomas has written prolifically for British film and television, winning two BAFTA Cymru Awards (Welsh Oscars), and achieving a modicum of success on the big screen. His notable credits include titles such as "Twin Town" (1997), "Up 'N Under" (1998, which opened the same weekend in the UK as "Titanic"), "Aristocrats" (1999), "Mad Cows" (1999), "The Big Tease" (1999), "Dog Soldiers" (2002), “Shadows in the Sun” (2005), “Doogal” (2006) and “Back in Business (2007)”, as well as his first major Hollywood studio feature, “Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London” (2004). Recently, Thomas's long-standing collaboration with the family-orientated production company Peak Viewing Transatlantic has resulted in him composing an incredible eight scores for them since 2000 alone! In addition to his film work, Thomas is also responsible for "A Mind to Kill" (a series of 13 90-minute dramas for Sky Television produced by S4C), several notable animations based on bible stories, and a stage version of "Two Gentlemen of Verona" for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Thomas currently lives with his wife Mary near Glastonbury in Somerset, England.
