TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME

ANGELO BADALAMENTI

Rating:

Original Review: As you would expect from a David Lynch film, the music from Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me is weird. I've never really experienced any Angelo Badalamenti music before, and after hearing this I'm not sure I want to again. The major thing of note is that on two tracks Badalamenti actually sings, the first time I have ever heard of a film music composer doing so on one of his albums. The two tracks, 'A Real Indication' and 'The Black Dog Runs At Night' are blues influenced, and Badalamenti's voice is what I would expect an Italian-American Joe Cocker to sound like. The rest of the score is also highly blues/jazz/rock orientated, with prominent electric guitars, drums and saxophones throughout. However, there is no conventional 'beauty' to the score - it is very much something to be experiened rather than enjoyed, although the 'Theme from Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me' has a great sleazy, sexy, sultry trumpet solo, 'Best Friends' is slightly lighter in tone and features quite a nice piano/synth melody and, of course, the legendary 'Laura Palmer's Theme' from the original TV series is great.
